Where is Michelangelo's David?

In one of the most visited museums in the world, the Galleria dell'Accademia, where you can admire Renaissance paintings and the famous statues of Michelangelo: the Prigioni, created in Rome for the tomb of Pope Julius II, and the gigantic David for Florence Cathedral. In order to work on the block of Carrara marble, previously rough-hewn by another artist and then abandoned for a long time, Michelangelo closed himself inside a kind of wooden scaffolding to work without being disturbed and without interference from the curious and somewhat "meddlesome" public. Finished in 3 years of work, decided its location and transported in Piazza della Signoria, where
the white marble could stand out against the strong stone of the Palazzo Vecchio facade.

From the beginning his masterpiece was much loved and much hated. Many misadventures happened, such as the one in 1527 when, during a tense political climate, a bench was thrown out of one of the windows of the palace and fell on the David, breaking his left arm in several parts. It remained here until the end of the nineteenth century and was then transferred to the Academy, thought to be finally sheltered from the weather and misadventures. Unfortunately another incident happened to poor David, when in the nineties a hammer was thrown at his foot! It took five days and a special cushioned wagon on rails to transport it. The model of the wagon is exhibited in the museum of casa Buonarroti. It was certainly not easy to safely transport a statue more than 4 meters high and weighing almost 5 tons!
